Entropic Degeneration Syndrome (EDS) is a terminal condition afflicting all Remnants.

No known Remnant has ever escaped its onset. The syndrome affects both biological and mechanical beings, though its manifestations differ between the two. In organics, it begins as a gradual destabilization of body and mind, resulting in cognitive deterioration, physiological abnormalities, and eventual systemic collapse. In mechanical entities, it presents as progressive corruption of hardware, memory degradation, and cascading failures of critical systems.

The most recognizable symptom of Entropic Derangement is the spontaneous appearance of unexplained stigmata upon the afflicted body. As the condition advances, these markings spread and deepen, often culminating in the eruption of a coarse black fluid from open wounds and bodily orifices. The substance remains poorly understood despite centuries of study.

In certain cases, Entropic Derangement does not result in death. Instead, the afflicted undergo a process of radical metamorphosis, transforming into entities classified as Void Beasts. The precise conditions governing this outcome remain unknown, and no reliable method of predicting transformation has yet been discovered.

Numerous theories seek to explain the syndrome’s origin. Among the most influential is the doctrine of the Void Priest, who teach that Entropic Derangement is the manifestation of the Original Sin carried by the Remnants. According to their scriptures, it is the divine punishment imposed upon those who rebelled against Isame of a Thousand Eyes and brought an end to The Age of Pyre.
